Return to Water Lilies

“It took me time to understand my water lilies. I had planted them for the pleasure of it; I grew them without ever thinking of painting them.” – Claude Monet

I am happy to be back to water lilies…the colors, the brush strokes, everything about them, make them a joy to paint. And they are a calm and tranquil subject too. A nice change of pace from portraits. No eyes looking back at you, no judgment, just peace.

And those colors...sigh…

Is it any wonder that Monet was smitten with them?

I’ll be back at portraits soon, but I am sure these will not be the only water lilies I paint this year. I hope you enjoy them as much as I enjoyed painting them.

“I am completely absorbed by my work. These landscapes of water and reflections have become an obsession.” – Claude Monet
