Painting for Friends and Family
Ten years ago, I found myself in a small art gallery, looking at an art piece on the wall that said “mixed media”. I came home to find out more about this so-called Mixed Media art…and from there, grew a love of art and painting that I had never had before. I started making small playing card size collages with materials I had, then I went into larger collages, digital collages, assemblages, journal pages, and finally into acrylic painting. All that, in ten years.
So, if you would have told me ten years ago, that I would be painting and selling my art…I probably would not have believed it. It’s a privilege to be able to paint for people I’ve never met, but also very special for me to be able to use my ever growing skill as a painter, to make art for my family and friends.
Hmong Beauty – for my niece-in-law
Thailand Beauty – for my sister far away
Two gouache portraits, painted for my niece-in-law’s sisters
In Monet’s Garden – for my sister who lives near me
Mt Fuji Blossoms – for my friend who is traveling to Japan
It is a wonderful thing to make art for the people I care about. I am happy to say that these are all in their new homes now, from a few miles down the road, to halfway across the world.
Love many things, for therein lies the true strength, and whosoever loves much performs much, and can accomplish much, and what is done in love is done well. – Vincent van Gogh
