New Art

In the Garden of Tranquility

This painting started off as my first assignment – it was the week we were learning the art of Gustav Klimt, in the Studying Under the Masters 3 class. I worked on it one day, and let it sit for quite a few weeks…walking by and seeing it every day, I knew there were a few things I wanted to change. I finally went back to it, and added more gold, and subtle touches here and there, until she became more of the painting I had envisioned.

In the Garden of Tranquility – 6 x 12 inch acrylic on stretched canvas (SOLD, thank you!)

I knew I wanted my Klimt inspired piece to resemble his peaceful redheads…so I found a fashion image online, that I used as my “model” for this painting, and then added in all the touches of gold, flowers, lines, dots, any kind of pattern that added a little something extra to the portrait. I think she is a good mix of Klimt, and my own style.

I am working on some experimental portraits and figurative work at the moment, and loving the exploration. It is good for me to work on a few things that have been stirring around in me, stretching into some new areas, and revisiting the things I love…mostly faces!

I’ll be back in a few weeks, to share!
