Iceland Shadows
Iceland Shadows – 6 x 6 inch acrylic painting on Ampersand gessobord
This was a painting made as a surprise for some friends of ours. Their trip to Iceland was one of those unforgettable adventures. They shared their favorite travel photos with me, and for their anniversary this year, I decided to paint one of their photographs. I don’t often paint shadows of people, but I have to say, it was pretty fun. My favorite part of this painting, is all the layers…from the foreground road and rocks, to the water, to the glacier, to the mountains, to the mist and the sky…I loved the colors and textures of each. It is pretty cool how this all came together on a small 6 x 6 inch board. My other favorite part…all the purple hues throughout the painting. I wrapped up their gift, and gave it to my friends this evening at dinner. It was a compliment (and a relief!) when she said, “hey, I know this picture!” It was one of her favorite photos of the trip.
It is a nice feeling when you can paint someone else’s memories.
