Reflections
Reflections – 5 x 7 inch acrylic painting on Ampersand Gessobord
This is officially my first painting of the year. I’ve joined with Leslie Saeta, and many other artists, for 30 Paintings In 30 Days for January. I’m a few days behind, but I certainly enjoyed getting back in the art room and to my much-missed easel and paints. I needed something calm to paint…something with color, with a bit of abstract, to calm me from a busy week of house organization. The last paintings of December, had me visiting waterlilies. I guess I hadn’t had my fill of them yet…because this is one of three that I’ve worked on today. I love working on the reflections…there are lots of layers here…blending and adding on top of what was already there. I loved seeing the evolution of this painting…from simple patches of color, to recognizable flowers in water. Monet probably never realized how the rest of the world would fall in love with waterlilies, once he planted and then started painting his garden. I wish I had a garden like that to paint from. For today’s painting session, I used a combination of photos as my inspiration, as well as a healthy dose of imagination + creativity. It was a wonderful way to spend the afternoon.
“It took me time to understand my waterlilies. I had planted them for the pleasure of it; I grew them without ever thinking of painting them. ”
– Claude Monet
