where the land meets the sea
I’ve been working on these three land and ocean views lately. I love switching back and forth between portraits and other subjects, or else I get too bored. I don’t think I’m the exception to that…as I see other artists like to vacillate between a variety of subjects. I think my true love is portraits, but then when I do a seascape, like this one below…I get totally swept off my feet!
“Moonstone Reflections” is a 5 x 7 inch acrylic painting on Ampersand Aquabord. I really love Ampersand’s panels, and this surface does very well with acrylics. The colors seem to grab a hold of it. I’ve been wanting to paint this scene for a while. I took this photo last November, on a trip to our favorite spot, Moonstone Beach in Cambria. While my husband was taking photos of the rocks and waves, I took many photos of the evening sky reflected in the shallow water on the shore. I used loose and limited brushstrokes here, I just wanted to get down the “idea” of the painting, and not get lost in the details of it. I’m very happy with the end result. Brings back such good memories of a seaside vacation. This painting is now available in my online art shop. (SOLD) Thank you!
“The Island” is also a 5 x 7 inch acrylic painting on Ampersand Aquabord. This was painted for the Daily Paintworks challenge. You can see the original photo here, and all the artists’ rendition of this same view of Monhegan Island, Maine. I amped up the colors from the original photograph, to create some interest on the rock face. Besides, I don’t need an excuse to get out the Red Oxide paint…it’s a favorite of mine! The painting is now available through Daily Paintworks.
And lastly, here is another painting of our favorite getaway…Moonstone Beach. This is also a 5 x 7 inch acrylic painting, and it was painted from a photo taken looking off to the south, from a higher vantage point. I loved painting those rocks in the water. This one is already framed and sitting in our living room…a nice reminder of where we enjoy spending a relaxing time with each other. I can almost hear the waves now…
