I am enjoying my study of the masters of the past. In January, one of our master artists of the Renaissance was Giovanni Bellini. I loved learning about his color palette. The auburn with the blue is something I definitely love to combine. While the original reference painting had a view of the sky in the background, I changed it to an interior view with a metallic frame. I think it gives it a bit of a dramatic flair.
A Model for Bellini – 11 x 14 inch acrylic on stretched canvas (SOLD, thank you!)

The sides of the canvas are painted, so there is no need to frame this one.
I jumped ahead and created a painting based loosely on the Rococo era…because I just love those Baroque hairstyles a bit too much!
Rococo Dreams – 11 x 14 inch acrylic on stretched canvas (SOLD, thank you!)
It was great to get creative with her hair… I added “script” to it. Just a little unexpected fun. I love working with these colors as well. And those deep, dark backgrounds really give a bit of drama to a portrait. You can click on the photo above to take you directly to this Etsy listing.
