Lady of Spain – 11 x 14 inch mixed media painting on stretched canvas
There are some paintings that I work on, that seem to just flow onto the canvas easily. THIS was not one of them. I had quite a work out with this portrait, she started off as quite a different idea, and then evolved into what you see now. Sometimes I am surprised at how they end up. But in this case, I am really LOVING the end result…especially those eyes of hers…and the fact that she is surrounded by all of those beautiful marks and colors. There’s collage in there too. Can you find where I added paper?
I learned so much from painting this portrait, and learning from the process of letting go of my preconceived ideas of what a painting should be. I also learned a lot about problem solving…fixing things that I didn’t particular like. The joy of acrylics…I can layer and layer and get really cool effects.
