Ladies in Monochrome

I’ve been taking a year long portrait class, called Let’s Face It 2017…since January. I am really loving the practice of drawing faces, and the challenges that each lesson brings with it. The first section of the class dealt with values, and so we were encouraged to work in a just black and white for some of the portraits. Then we were encouraged to add a graffiti type background, on one of the other lessons.

I’ve been wanting to paint in black and white for a while, and this was a great way to practice!

Show Me You Love Me – 9 x 12 inch mixed media on Bristol paper

As much as I love the black and white faces, I certainly think they pop with that bold and colorful background. I definitely will be doing more of this type of art this year.  All three of these are portrait studies, and hopefully will turn into larger pieces on canvas, gessobord, or wood panel.

For now, these portrait studies, as well as some smaller ones, are available in my Etsy shop, ArtcyLucy.
