Serafina – Original Portrait Painting
Serafina – 6 x 6 inch acrylic painting on Ampersand Gessobord (this painting is reserved)
I started this portrait last week, and finished it up this week. I love her soft look, paired with the dramatic color of the roses, her dark hair, and royal blue background. In my Studying Under the Masters class that I had in the spring of last year, we learned how Matisse used motifs, patterns and designs in many of his paintings. It’s reminded me to go that extra mile with my backgrounds, and add a little punch of something, to make it striking.
Being a brunette myself, I’m a bit partial to these raven haired beauties. Serafina and her lady friends, are now in the online Etsy shop, ArtcyLucy Studio.

She’s lovely, and I do like the “matisse” background. I looked back to Lucy, and her background and tried to visualize a similar treatment. She is perfect as she is, with the freshness of youth. Also, as a commission, you have brought the focus in solidly on her. Thanks for sharing them.
Bobbie, thanks so much for your thoughts on this painting, as well as the Lucy portrait. Thank you so much! Yes, I gave the mom the choice to have a patterned background or blended background, and she even chose the color. But I have to say, I DO love the drama of having unexpected designs in the background…I hope to do that more often!
