The Allure of Abstract
I started the year playing with water lilies and the abstract nature of flowers and reflections on water. I find it interesting, that at the end of the year, after trying my hand at many portraits, landscapes, and colorful still life paintings…it seems appropriate that I am expressing myself in an abstract way again. Getting my hands messy with paint and paper, getting lost in textures and composition, has been a nice way to rest from the learning mode (four online classes this year!) and just play. I love expressing my creativity this way.
Here are the most recent in the New Horizons series…
The Earth Below – 5 x 7 inch mixed media painting on cradled wood panel
Distant Memory – 6 x 6 inch mixed media painting on Ampersand art panel
Inward Passages – 6 x 6 inch mixed media painting on Ampersand gessobord
I am loving these deep and dark colors…somehow very comforting on cold wintry days. I am using some of my asemic writing papers that I made with ink, in these collages. I love the texture in these too!
I have several more to show you…but in the meantime, these three newest paintings are available in the online Etsy shop. Shipping for these paintings, as well as any of the others on Etsy, will go out after the 1st of the year. The black frame you see above, is something I am trying out for my 6 x 6 inch paintings. They are from Jerry’s Artarama and I love the museum quality of these frames. I would love to know if you have a favorite brand of frames for your paintings.

I really like the one called Inward passages and i think the black fromaes look great on these paintings. The black and red combo in the paintings is very dramatic.
