a portrait of Sonya
This was one of those unexpected paintings, that really came out of nowhere. I had a painting study on paper I had painted last year, that I ended up making into a canvas painting. It was an ocean scene. So, I decided to paint a portrait right on top of the painting study. I wanted to try some new recipes for skin tones. This one is Dioxanine Purple and Hansa Yellow, with Titanium White. I added touches of Crimson red, when I needed it. But all in all, I love the color effects, and skin tone. Of course, the background of this one, reminds me of the colors I used for this portrait. And some of the unexpected results of painting over a painting? Little bits of ocean blue coming through the background, and lots of bits of texture from the brushstrokes underneath.
Sonya – is an 11 x 14 inch acrylic painting on heavyweight Bristol paper. (SOLD, thank you!)
