Settling into 2023

Hello!

I am still here, and yes … It is a whole new year! How are you?

It has been a very very very  wet month here, and that was a surprise for us, since we have been living in a drought for a long while. A lot of rain, very quickly. Locally, we are ok, but there are many around the state that are not. And it has been really hard to watch. As much as I love the rain, and as much as we need it, it was still difficult knowing that it was causing so much damage, and loss of life. My heart goes out to those families who are grieving.

We are enjoying the sun here again, though it has been cold this week. Our garden is a bit waterlogged still, but there are things sprouting up through the damp soil. Spring will be here soon, and there are tiny reminders of that in the form of Orange Monarch Crocuses, Yellow and Neon Calendulas, Hellabores, Cape Daisies, and even a tiny Nasturtium sprout growing in my leaf bucket!

So, what’s new on the art front? I decided to start a new art project for 2023.  “A Color For Every Month” will keep me in a playful, explorative mindset. So, I made a list, a different color to explore and play with each month.

January’s color is powerful, but also fun … Playful Pink.

I have been playing on paper, cradled panels, and also these small 4 x 4 inch flat wooden panels, almost like little wooden coasters. They are a fun size to play on, and the pressure to make a “real” painting doesn’t exist here … it’s just P L A Y.   Of course, I can see garden colors in these pieces, can you?

It comes as no surprise that I chose pink for the first month of this color project, because the last 18 months, I have been dabbling with pink in my abstract pieces, and honestly LOVING it. It is such a happy color!

Lately, I have been working on unfinished pieces I started last year. This is one of my favorites, and it has that “Playful Pink” color in it.

Here are a few more I am working on these days.  They aren’t quite finished yet, but I hope to have new pieces in my online shop sometime in early February.

These two lovely pinky pieces below, are in my ArtcyLucy Etsy shop. For my blog readers, I am offering a 20% off every original piece of art in the shop. Just type the coupon code FORTHELOVEOFCOLOR in the cart, and you will get 20% off your whole order. Or you can click here to go directly to the shop. This coupon is good until February 5th, 2023.

I will definitely let you know when I add new pieces to the shop. And I look forward to sharing with you what February’s Color of the Month will be. For now, I will leave you with a quote on COLOR, and I hope that wherever you are in the world, you are safe, dry, healthy, and creative.
