One of my very first paintings, ever…was an attempt at a version of Botticelli’s Birth of Venus painting, which I am happy to say, I have seen for myself at the Uffizi Gallery in Florence. That painting is stunning, and HUGE. My humble and very amateur painting…those many years ago, was not good. But it gave me a taste for painting, and I am so glad I kept with it. I made one other “Venus” inspired painting about five years ago. And now, this one…a red headed model for Botticelli. His model was a blonde, but I used my favorite palette here, red ochre and emerald green…with bits of floral colors added. I love how she turned out! I could probably revisit this theme many times…changing hair, background, clothing, decoration. And who knows, maybe I will!
