A Child of Africa – 9 x 12 inch acrylic on cradled wood panel (SOLD, thank you!)
I am taking a portrait class this year, and I am immersing myself in a variety of faces. I mostly paint young women, and I rarely paint children, so this was a good lesson for me, in learning how to change proportion for a child, instead of an adult. I am also learning how to mix paint to get a variety of skin tone colors too. The class has really been invaluable for my growth as a painter. I feel more confidence with each painting I complete, even with the challenges I face with just about every face!
When I was done with the lesson, I fell in love with the little boy’s face on the wooden panel. That’s what I love about painting portraits, watching a person come into existence on canvas or panel…one paint stroke at a time.
