Paintings for April

Spring is here, and I’ve been busy with online classes, as well as finding time to organize my art space, and finishing up some paintings I started last month.

Here are three new small portraits just added to my shop.

Joan – 5 x 7 inch acrylic painting on Ampersand gessobord (SOLD, thank you!)

Sweet Jenny – 5 x 7 inch acrylic painting on Ampersand gessobord

The Dreaming Rose – 5 x 7 inch acrylic painting on Ampersand gessobord  (SOLD, thank you)

I love creating these small and colorful portraits…and as always, I learn new things with every one I complete. Each of them go through quite a transformation until I call them finished, and how they start, and what I think they will turn out like…isn’t usually how they end up. But I love the process of painting, of learning what to keep and what to take away.

This past month, I have been enjoying the online self study course by Gillian Lee Smith, called Drawn to Expression. I am learning to draw with lots of materials, like charcoal, Conte crayon, ink, and pastels and mixing materials as well, to get expressive mixed media portraits. I know this will make an impact on my future paintings too. It’s always exciting to learn something new, and to take these learned techniques and make them our own.

I am also happy to say that I made a book of some of my scribble portraits.

I can’t tell you how wonderful it is to hold this in my hands, and see months of work all together in a collection.

I’m still scribbling with pen, in between painting, drawing, class assignments and organizing. And I hope to add more of my scribble portrait prints to my ArtcyLucy Studio Etsy shop in the future.
