Blue Moon – 9 x 12 acrylic painting on mixed media paper
I am inspired by the illustrator, Henry Clive, this month. His lovely paintings of actresses and dancers, graced the covers of Smart Set and Picture Play magazines in the 1920s.
I’ve always loved the fashion of the roaring twenties, so it was a fun way for me to experiment with Clive’s style, combined with my way of painting portraits. I found a fashion catalog image as a loose reference, and went to work….adding the blue moon, and then the red flower…and finally the warm yellow background. It was an experiment in shape and color too!
