Esme

Esme1

Esme – 5 x 7 inch gouache painting on Ampersand Gessobord

This is the last of the three Matisse inspired paintings from last week. This one was the difficult one…I had to really work with her, to get it just right. This is where working in gouache came in handy…as I could wipe off with water and a rag, the part I didn’t like, and start from the under layers. I took the advice of one of my favorite teachers, “work on a painting until you love it”.  She also taught us the value of layering. The newest online class with that teacher, Misty Mawn, starts on Monday, and I can’t wait to get started! Her passion for art, and her clear and encouraging instructions, makes her online classes so very special. She is one of my favorite contemporary artists. Which just goes to show, how much I enjoy learning from artists of the past, as well as the present!

“Esme” is now available in my online art shop.

“Derive happiness in oneself from a good day’s work, from illuminating the fog that surrounds us.” ~ Henri Matisse
