Stepping Back In Time

I’m back to painting faces again, and I have to admit, this was my favorite portrait of the month.

“Stepping Back In Time” – an acrylic painting on 9 1/2 x 12 1/2 inch watercolor paper. (SOLD, thank you!)

The inspiration came from listening to music from Canadian musician, Royal Wood. His voice, and the photographs of his very retro, classic 50s look, made me want to paint a masculine portrait. After drawing and painting so many feminine faces, this was a fun departure. And it was also fun to let go and paint a little more loosely than I usually do. I made sure to use a larger brush, and I tried hard to to retain those thick brushstrokes, without getting too lost in the details. I used a limited palette too, and enjoyed these colors very much.

Tomorrow is the last day of the month, and I will show you all the rest of September’s paintings. It’s been a long and full month!
